Site update tip #3: Make yourself heard

With the new look, we decided we also wanted to change the tone of the website. We wanted the website to not only showcase our services, but also to lend a human voice to the website. And hence, this blog was born.

So how has blogging helped us so far? Well, this blog is still very young, but already we can see some of the benefits that blogging can bring. Case in point, one of the earlier posts about the annoying “border” around embedded Flash objects has gotten itself bookmarked by many fellow surfers. While we were not the direct source of the solution (the credit all goes to Mix-FX) we are glad that we are adding some value to the solution, by pointing people in the right direction while we document our experience in dealing with the same problems.

Blogging can really add much-needed human touch to the website. We feel that it can be beneficial to businesses as the blog creates an informal platform for voicing your opinions on current trends and observations. This is extremely helpful in today’s climate where everything moves at top speed, so the blog can keep your website as up to date as you can possibly keep. Customers, both prospective and existing ones, will be able to see a different (hopefully positive) side of the people behind the company.

We are also experimenting with the idea of blogging for our business, and therefore, our opinions on this topic will not be the final word, but judging from the response that we have gotten, we can say that it should be well worth the effort.

For that, we have just upgraded ourselves to WordPress. We started out with a blog engine that we rolled our own. But as with all in-house projects, the project was soon thrown to the back burner and we just couldn’t get the time to develop the engine further. So we figured, what the heck, WordPress is there, so let’s just not reinvent the wheel. And we have now opened up comments, because we believe good constructive comments can only add even more value to the blog. So please, fire away with your opinions and ideas. We are all ears.

This is Part 3 and the last of a series of posts relating to the ideas behind our new website look. We hope that through these posts we were able to share with you our experiences in working through our latest revamp. We not only look forward to writing more about our observations and sharing our experiences in the future, but also hearing more from you on your thoughts on everything about the Web in general, from design to marketing.

I’m working on redesigning my site and was considering including a WordPress blog. Did you put your entire site in WordPress, or is only the blog section of your site in WordPress?

    Hi Zoe,

No, only our blog is on WordPress.
