Project allotment and progress report

The Youth Leaders and Mentors Programme (YLMP) under National Youth Council (NYC) is a programme for youths and young adults interested in working with youths, through which leadership and project management skills may be nurtured as they serve the community. The website is set up to act as a platform for youths to obtain information regarding the programme, register their interests and for the leaders and mentors to have a channel to report on their experience and share their ideas and tips they have learned while interacting with the youths.

The mentor reporting aspect of the website has a unique feature. In order to cater to the youth audience, the reporting system is created as a blog engine. This takes an entirely different approach from the more traditional way of reporting on project progress and issues. The blog feature provides the youth leaders and mentors with a fresh avenue through which they can record their reflections from their working with the youths. Participating mentors may also browse through other mentor’s reports in blog style, which enhances the feel of the website as a site for youths by making the reports more “fun” to work with and read about.

Powering the blog and mentor reporting functions is the back-end management system. The back-end system provides functionalities for the programme administrators to keep track on the mentor registrations, create projects and project teams based on the mentor pool, and the reports being submitted by the mentors after every project meeting. Through an intuitive interface and solid programming, the system provides a tool that is simple to use by even the most novice of web user, and at the same time allows for administrators to carry out their daily project and report tracking tasks easily and efficiently.

In addition, reports can be easily generated in the form of Excel and/or Word documents by the administrators, thereby proving to provide a seamless way of obtaining data from the online system to use in their offline office infrastructure. The Excel and Word documents are formatted for easy printing and yet allow for further editing by the administrators when the need arise. All the reports can be customized based on the criteria of data fields to include and/or the mentors or projects to report on.
